The Basement Diaries – Choosing a Carpet, Debating a Bar

by Rechelle ~ November 24th, 2009. Filed under: Life.

We have been making some real progress in the basement lately.  We managed to put some tile down in the bathroom….

We have tried every possible configuration for a proposed bar area in the T.V. room…

And we have attempted to select some carpet using a tournament method that my children devised.

You can read the whole crazy story over at Farmhouse and Garden.

Want to pass on a tip for the slate floor in the bathroom. Slate tile is verrry porous. I work in a factory and I am the only gal. We put that slate floor in the employee bathroom and, I’m not sure how to say this delicately, the “sprinkles” soak into the tile and STINK ALOT. Seal the tile you should be OK.

A word of advice about the bar – unless you intend to throw A LOT of parties, they’re just a waste of space. My husband and I have bought and sold a few houses – the first thing that goes is the bar. Takes up too much space for such a limited use. The only one he did save was beautifully built, so he lowered it and turned it into an island.
